Comment | I grew in a city with vast tram and bus network and I don't get it about trans distributing traffic more than buses. Buses there often share lanes with trams and have prioritised signals at junctions and in such situation they have the same impact on traffic.
On the other hand, trams need less space on corners: while buses need to make a wide swing with their front so the rear wheels (or trailer wheels - we have plenty of bendy buses) won't mount the kerb, and on the top of that drivers have to be aware of their overhang, every single axle of the tram follows the same trace, obviously, so they can be run easily around tight bends without obstructing oncoming (or side street) traffic. |
