It is shite and I think people should lose their jobs over the decisions that led to this.

But you have to realise, this isn't down to the landlords as your post suggested. It's the government you should be taking issue with and out protesting against.

The absolutely ridiculous spending over COVID has caused this. The government cannot spend a penny with generating the equivalent amount via tax or inflation. Our taxes haven't gone up and thus we're paying for this with inflation. Your rent increases aren't actually linked to it you having to pay more value, it's linked to your money being worth less than it was before, hence the price increase.

While I've not been impacted by a rent increase as I'm on a fixed mortgage, all my living costs have skyrocketed too (I think my personal rate of inflation is around 25% at the moment) and so I feel your pain.
