The financial viability and the morality of it go hand in hand, trying to separate the two might make you feel better about your pro landlord stance but it's just not how it works in real life.

The solution most definitely is not to reduce the governments role in this. What better motivation for property developers and building companies to increase profits by building sub standard housing, using cheaper materials, cheaper labour etc all with the goal of increasing their bottom line as opposed to providing, safe, warm and quality housing.

And Scotland is sitting with loads of empty houses btw, nearly 50 thousand empty homes in Scotland.
