First of all, as a photographer, thank you so much for putting more consideration into your gift than that cup that looks like a camera lens. I get it. It’s funny. It looks like a lens but it’s a cup. I have been given roughly 15 billion of them. I will never escape their grasp.

In terms of photography gifts, I would say to get them something like a photo book by one of the greats. Not only is it not something that you can’t get “wrong” (e.g. getting a canon flash for a Nikon camera etc.), but I have never once been uninspired while looking at a photobook. Depends what sort of photography they are into but have a look at Irving Penn’s centennial if they’re into portraits and the like, or if you want to make it a wee bit more Scottish themed, Martin Parr’s Think of Scotland is a magic book detailing weird stuff all around the country. Available in all good (and probably most shite) bookshops.

Alternatively have a go with a traditional art book. I’m really into the work of Edward Hopper at the moment, and his paintings are family photographic with an incredible use of light. Taking jn his work is totally changing how I’m looking at making pictures.

Anyway, enough of sounding like a total artwank for one day. Shite at lager ideas as not my drink of choice. Hope this helps, Cheers!
