Though I read only very recently that the existing trains already have capability to be run remotely, and have done since they were installed 40 years ago. They just never did it.

It's still unclear if the new ones will be completely driverless, or if there will be some sort of phasing out of drivers over some years.

The driver controls on the new trains are attached to a foldaway table, so it's quite easy to just turn it into a completely driverless space and open the cabin up for additional seating at the very front.
