How many deaths now? About 0.01 % in the UK.
The problem is that people have been misled to believe that pandemics can be resolved without personal hardships and without sustained change in how we live our lives.
The last outbreak of bubonic plague in Glasgow the whole area was locked down and sanitation/housing reform was mandated to avoid such a thing happening again.
Whereas we locked down and went right back to what we were doing before.
The rise of the individuals wants and needs over those of the many has led us to this point.
Governments have failed us. Made shoddy choices to serve outdated models of measuring GDP/GNP. They have lined the pockets of their themselves and their friends at the expense of many.
They should be held to trial for this of course. But so many regular people are guilty of not making the best decisions for their fellow citizens because it inconveniences them. Or thinking it doesn’t apply to us because we don’t know anyone affected.
It’s really sad. So many Scots have fought and thought of ways to improve the lives of the many. But we are too selfish to follow in their footsteps. |
