Lemsip is basically Paracetamol (and Phenylephrine). That's why it tastes fucking rank. It would be the same if you chewed up a Paracetamol in your mouth instead of swallowing it with some water. You could just ditch the Lemsip and just take the Paracetamol with a glass of water for the same effect, but be very careful with the amount of Paracetamol you take in 24 hours.
The Phenylephrine is to dry your runny mucus membranes but really that is your bodies immune response flushing the bugs away. If you dry that up you are not excreting those bugs as efficiently as you would otherwise.
Good hydration and good sleep will really help even though it seems to simple to be useful.
