For the sake of saving a year I'd be very tempted to go to Glasgow.

A lot of my friends went to Strathclyde to do engineering, and it is definitely typically considered the 'engineering' uni with great industry links. However, Glasgow is also a very good university and for the sake of saving a year I would strongly consider going there.

In short, both would be very good options! If you chose Glasgow over Strathclyde due to direct second year entry no one would question it, its not like you are choosing a 'bad' uni - its still Glasgow!

I will say though, I did a postgraduate at Glasgow in a different field (law) and I found the uni to be very disorganised compared to my undergrad (Edinburgh).
