Comment | Usually considered one of the top cities in the UK alongside Manchester, Liverpool etc. London is its own thing by sheer size - the other cities feed their biggest bands to London, but those bands emerge from thriving local scenes.
There's grassroots initiatives like [the Ice Box](https://www.newhellfireclub.co.uk/news/2018/12/7/what-to-expect-with-a-visit-to-the-ice-box-glasgows-newest-arts-and-music-space), historic venues like [King Tuts](https://www.kingtuts.co.uk/our-story) and [the Barrowlands](http://barrowland-ballroom.co.uk/about/).
Not sure of the current situation, but in the past a few colleges and universities ran student record labels. Glasgow Uni has a radio station, SubCity. Both the SubCity and Sunny Govan radio stations have shows for playing local bands.
If you do get a band going, playing the small festival circuit is a great way to build a fanbase. There's a 2k-10k capacity festival somewhere in Scotland every weekend through the summer. Particularly recommend attending Kelburn, Doune the Rabbit Hole, Knockengorroch, and Mugstock (disclaimer: I volunteer for Mugstock) |
