| Comment | Your GP won’t be qualified to make that diagnosis and will likely need to refer you to adult mental health services. If I were you I’d first ask if this has been done, and if not why. If they can’t give you an answer or refuse to refer you then it might be time to start looking for a new GP.
Just a word of warning, if you do manage to get a referral you’ll probably be looking at a waiting list of at least 6+ months, but please don’t let that put you off seeking further help and don’t give up pushing if you really feel you need it.
Mental health services in this country are seriously underfunded and since COVID are almost at breaking point. In the words of my psychiatrist they’re ‘pretty much firefighting’ at the moment, and unless your already under their care, or are a threat to yourself or others, you’re essentially low priority. |
