I had severe depression, insomnia and axiety, but it was a result to my recent head injury.

My GP was great, he prescribed me some meds but also advised me where to go for help (you can refer yourself, he does not need to do so). The first place did not worked well for me so he looked up some other option and advised me to sign for therapy elsewhere (he can do it as well, but he said it works exactly well and if you do it yourself, you can give them better info).

I got one-to-one therapy (although only some small number of meetings is included in the beginning, and as I was much better after the end of that series I didn't need to ask for more).

As per pharmaceuticals, the first one he prescribed to me was working fine, but it causd me to sweat terribly, and the sleeping pills werent the best. I happen to have a friend in Poland who is a psychiatrist, so he told me what I should take. I took this to my GP, he checked it up in some books, as he was not familiar with those ones as he is not psychiatry, but after double checking that those are indeed good for me prescribed me those. And then when my psychiatrist friend was amending my doses, he was just rubber stamping it, but after briefly double checking this.

My example might not be a good one, as it was really injury related and as I got better, it all dissapeared - I consider myself fully cured now (I have some moment when I am down or something keeps me up at night, but who does not have those?), but as far as my GP goes, this is all I would expect from a doctor who is not a specialist in the field.

If you have a docttor you trust, go speak with him. He might be able to help you. And take care for yourself and ask anything if I can be of any other help.
