In the early days of Glasgow’s police force, a lot of constables hailed from the Highlands and Western Isles. At the time of the Highland clearances, the big strapping "Teuchter" men, as they were called, were ideally suited for police service. I thoroughly recommend Joe Pieri's book The Big Men if you're interested finding out more. Great Post BTW.
