Comment | I don’t think that inheriting a surname equates to a recognisable community. My own surname is English but I have highland lineage on one side.
That said, my own links to highland heritage are so dilute over the centuries that it’s just not something that I identify with personally. (Beyond general historic interest).
I don’t think there’s many places that you could walk into in Glasgow where a majority would claim to be part of the Highland diaspora.
Like I said, at Celtic Connections you probably have a higher number than average of people who would buck this trend… but there’s a huge number of attendees with English (or more exotic) surnames that are just as invested. It’s certainly not a homogenous group. |
