ok. so i'm going to say, as a cyclist. i'm sorry for what happened. it's a shame that this happened and i'm sorry. best tip i can give is report it to the police and also ask with the local shops there if they seen anything. as a person on the autism spectrum myself, i completely understand. byres road is a nightmare if you've got sensory issues and anxiety over busy places, i get why your son was feeling overwhelmed and i think you did the right thing by trying to get him to a quieter place. i'm sorry that happened with you trying to do the right thing for them.

i do want to say something to all the folk who are like "it's because all cyclists are dangerous" i do want to humanize people who ride bikes, because the downside of people saying "well cyclists are dangerous" is it does dehumanize and categorize them as an other and not worthy of respect based on the actions of a few. i'm not saying this about OP, i'm saying it in general. an asshole is an asshole no matter what mode of transport they're in. car, bike, on foot or in zepplin. i see cyclists run red lights all the time and same with cars/busses. the main difference i have noticed between the attitudes of cyclists vs. motorists when it comes to running red lights is motorists tend to have a "too late to stop now" mentality where as cyclists have a bit more of a "oh god, i'll have to build up the speed again, guess i'll just sneak past"

there is also the argument to be made that the cycling infrastructure on byres road/great western road is non-existant and glasgow city council could reduce a lot of the problems people have with walking/cycling on great western road just by removing the cars, but every time i've mentioned the concept of removing cars on the glasgow subreddit, i always get DM's telling me i'm a stupid tree hugger who needs to shut the fuck up. but proves my point, an asshole is an asshole no matter what.
