for anyone reading this with a bed bug issue: diatomaceous earth. It shreds them the f up but is safe for humans and animals. Found one a while back and and freaked the f out, covered all the base boards in it, used plastic bins and talcum powder to make little anti-bed bug moats around each leg of the bed (with double stick tape on the legs for good measure) washed and hoovered everything, covers on all the mattresses. Never seen another one or had any signs since. Unfortunately densely populated victorian buildings are ideal for them as they can chill out in wee cracks and in the walls. A bit like flea infestations as you really gotta go to war on the fuckers. Always check round the bed for wee black dots, that's the sign they're havin a munch on you. The sooner you act the better, they multiply fast.

tldr: bomb the place in diatomaceous earth, make fortress around bed, good luck.
