Do you have a bank account now? If not, try a high street branch. Nationwide are still a building society, and have money advisors you can speak to face to face that can help with current accounts and savings accounts. If you have a branch locally, I’d recommend them. They are still ran as a building society, so they don’t seem to be as ‘corporate’ as banks - you still get to vote at their AGM every year (but you don’t have to).

Their current account has some good features like rounding up each transaction to the nearest pound and putting it in your savings. So if you buy something for £2.75, it adds 25p to a pot, which can build up quite quickly (again, you don’t have to do this).

Their app is really easy to use and displays all your accounts on one screen, so you can see what is in your current account and savings.

I have always found them helpful, and if you explain your situation, I’m sure they would be able to help.
