The government has already stated they won't exactly be chapping folks doors to enforce. Insurance providers will differ so depending who you're with you may or may not be covered, so best to check. If I understand correctly, if your alarms aren't upgraded it could be a sticking point if you're trying to sell, but I'm not 100% on that.
