I'd say black mould is a sign that the room isn't well enough ventilated which isn't your fault. Tell them you're not happy with a deduction for it given the landlord is responsible for ensuring there's no dampness, etc in a flat and that you should be compensated for the fact there was an issue, sure they'll write it off rather than face that.

For anyone else with the issue - mould and mildew spray from Poundland/b&m does a great job on it.
