I didn’t go to that college but I understand it’s is big. That means it is perfect as you will just be one of many apprehensive people in the first days and weeks. Many people can hide it well but most will have some anxieties about going somewhere new.

The people doing you course/classes automatically have at least that one topic in common interest. At college/uni there are lots of clubs and societies. Go along to some that you think sound interesting. If you tried them and not for you, no prob. If you enjoy, great.

With the college being big and in Glasgow it’s not going to be an issue being gender-neutral. There will likely be other people who similarly feel gender neutral. Glasgow tends to also be a generally friendly place. Just chat to other students. The good thing when you start is that most people start at the same time so you can ask if they’re from Glasgow or came for college, if they’re from Glasgow tell them your not and ask their advice on places to go (something that they’re interested in will get people chatting). You can use not being familiar with the place to start conversations. Either the person knows Glasgow and will tell you about it, or they won’t and will be in the same situation as you. If anyone seems a bit of a dick, then easy enough to not try to be friends, there are loads of other people.

For the commute use the time for something pleasant, time to listen to podcasts/audiobooks, download a video on to phone before (obviously only if your battery will still last the day), read a book. Personally I can’t read on a bus or train, and especially could never study in my commute so used it for the time to listen to music or podcasts. It’s a time to chill, even maybe meditate. Or, as I got very good at falling asleep in the bus, sleep. Put headphones in and set your alarm for a good 10 mins before your due to arrive at you stop.
