I suppose it depends what you're after and food is a good example. All those places have the same 10-15 food outlets (Nandos, Five guys, prezzo, pizza express, Bella italian, Pret A Manger etc etc) and most of those are mediocre and over priced.
You go into the city centre on the other hand and the choice of food is extraordinary for a city of our size.
