I’d ask if the only thing that bothers you is the commute time? There will be trade-offs, so if you’re otherwise happy then moving closer to the city may not be the best idea. All of the places you’ve mentioned have less-than great reputations. Like everywhere, they have good and bad spots, Paisley is mostly bad with a few not-so-bad areas, I’d avoid East Kilbride like the plague if I were you. I live in a rough part of Glasgow’s East end and was brought up in an even rougher bit of the south side so I’m not saying this to be snobby about it. If you can afford it and want to move closer to work then you should consider moving inside the Glasgow boundary to one of the suburbs. Glasgow is rough in a lot of places but suburban areas like Mosspark, Cardonald, Knightswood, Riddrie (to some extent) and various others, will offer the same bang for your buck as the commuter towns but you’re closer to the city and life will verbally be pretty quiet and uneventful. Just my 2p!
