Honestly, the negative of the loss of the countrys social housing, followed by legislation that made it near impossible to replace, far outweighs the positives of greater homeownership.

I got the figure wrong, but 40% of previously council owned houses now being privately owned, and a large proportion of those now being rented *by* the council, is a fucking joke.

It's actually pretty fucking difficult to just replace the whole country's social housing. Beyond cost, there's a lack of suitable places to do so. Housing needs to be in places where there is work, access to shops, access to recreation, schools, transport, more. Most of the sites that would be suitable have already got previously built and sold blocks in place. Then there's the fact that due to Thatcher's policies favouring London and the South, there's a complete imbalance of where housing is needed.

Not many people wanted to work in coal mines, but she shut said mines without making any effort to support or create new work in the coal mining towns. She was also the one who sent the police to do the beatings, and her policy was very publicly to be brutal to them.

As for your thoughts on the Nazis, you're just plain wrong. The Nazis were strongly capitalistic, and privatised to an incredible degree, including their rail network (previously the largest public network in Europe), four publicly owned banks, shipyards, public utilities and social work.

Their labelling of themselves as National Socialists was a tactic to get elected, by drawing voters away from actual socialist groups. It was using this funny little invention called lying.

Hell, once they were in power, who did they send to the work camps? The communists and socialists.
