In Europe we go on holiday in the summer generally. June, July and August would be the holiday season, if any.

In America, their word for a holiday is a vacation. They go on vacation, we go on holiday. That’s the distinction. 2 words with different meanings.

Calling it the festive season is perfectly fine as that is a valid description of the season.

It’s certainly not super common here to say that. I’m middle aged and that was the first time I’ve ever heard it said in Britain. Perhaps it is amongst kids that have grown up here with American media though.
