I'm currently playing the waiting game. I'm waiting for an appointment for assessment with the CMHT (Shawpark I think). Hopefully some of my rambling post will provide some insight of what it's like to be in the middle of it currently.

My GP has been amazing. I first went there about four years ago about unstable moods while feeling very depressed and came away feeling fobbed off. However, called back last November about the same thing (while I was in a state better described as hypomanic) and after some open questions he could describe almost exactly what I had experienced, so he clearly had an idea about what was going on and took it seriously. I remembered afterwards that he had asked me how I had been doing a few times at other appointments in the years inbetween, and it dawned on me he was checking up on my mental health after that first appointment with him. The reason he didn't act at first is because he probably had some idea of what might be going on and the icd10 and dsm5 both specify that for some affective disorders symptoms must be present for at least 2 years before a diagnosis can be made. Sucks, but he was following procedure. He keeps great notes on patients and remembers important personal details. Overall, really good guy and an excellent doctor. I've had other doctors in Glasgow who are equally good too, but I didn't see them for mental health support.

Anyway, he put me in contact with the PCMHT, and I referred myself to them and heard back about ten days later, which is within their 2 week turnaround time. They decided they couldn't assess my condition, so I was referred to the CMHT. That was around the beginning of December. Still waiting for an assessment, which I will definitely receive according to the people I have spoken to on the phone there, but I suppose this still counts as early days given waiting times to see a psychiatrist can be very long. Some delay is also due to the consultant psychiatrist being on annual leave which extended their Christmas break I think.

The CMHT did not tell me that I was booked for an assessment. I found out that I'm due for assessment after chasing up details of my referral with the PCMHT, who then passed on contact details for the CMHT.

I think so much can depend on the GP you find. Mine have been excellent in Glasgow so far, so there are decent doctors out there and a lot to choose from, so if you come across someone who doesn't give yiu the treatment you need then you should hopefully have a decent number of options.
