Definitely recommend you have a car if you're commuting into EK. I'm a lazy bastard and never got round to getting a driving licence and used to work in the Hairmyres area - nightmare without a car. Had to often rely on my colleagues with cars if I wanted to go for a McDonalds or something for lunch rather than the nearby Greggs/Lidl/quite pricey local Deli.

EK really isn't built for pedestrians and other than the train which was reliable enough (although I suffered my fair share of cancellations) the commute links are pretty dire too. Had to go through a right dodgy passageway to get to the bus stop if the trains were buggered.

If you're not posted near the nearest train stations you're going to have a tough time. I live in Paisley and it used to be an hour or so commute every day and EK's got an entirely different climate so winter was difficult with icy pavements too - turns into a bit of a death trap.

Was amazing when I finally managed to get a job in Glasgow City Centre - not an easy feat when interviews were only in person as it's impossible to sneak out at lunch for one. Had to take a few sickies or half-days or get lucky and get one after working hours (which I did!)
