The answer to this question is fickle in my estimation.

So my understanding and experiences say that emergency & temporary accommodation have differences.

Emergency I.e. bed and breakfast or hostel. If you are placed in a bed and breakfast or hostel, you should not be there for more than 7 days (IRL I’ve seen people be in this accommodation for months).

Temp accommodation has longer time periods again. So like temp furnished flats are an example. You shouldn’t stay in this for more than 7 days if it’s unsuitable to you/your families needs. Assessment for permanent accommodation is suppose to be 28 days. I don’t believe there is a timescale set on how long you can be in temp - but it’s advantageous for them to move you on. It really comes down to need, areas/properly type bid on & viability. To this I’ve seen people in temp units for over a year more than once.
