Comment | Yes, I should have added, 'enforced speed limit' I was on it the other day at 40 with a queue of apoplectic SUVs behind me. Vehicles overtaking us at about 20mph faster in the next lane, ie nobody actually follows the speed limit. Hence so many crashes. In terms of efficiency it depends on the engine, the fuel, the vehicle, the conditions and the driver. An engine may be more efficient in terms of power production but it will still emit more pollutants at higher speed. That's before we've looked at noise, road wear and as mentioned, crashes. No one can argue that a crash at 50 is better than a crash at 30 |
