I can see it from both sides but there’s a difference between erring on the side of caution and just a complete lack of common sense. Demanding a toddler get a pcr after a runny nappy is just so OTT to me. Constant PCR’s are traumatic for little kids who can’t understand what’s happening and it’s awful for parents having to subject them to the process over and over.

Nursery places cost an absolute fortune. People pay hundreds of pounds per month for childcare so that they are still able to work. You expect kids to get sent home on the odd occasion but it’s constant at the moment. When I called in recently to say I was keeping mine off because they had the cold, the response was “oh we’ll be having an easy day then”. Of course it was probably a joke but that’s how it feels right now.

Losing pay due to waiting on a PCR result is the same no matter what industry you work in. It’s exactly what the nurseries expect me to do every time I get that dreaded phone call.

Unfortunately, I’m not able to send customers home from my work for having a runny nose…
