yep, sounds familiar. every complaint I had was met with an empty excuse, and when I couldn't say anything because "that's bs" isn't an acceptable reply, he would be like, see, you can be reasonable! :) been a while since I was that angry at a person. he pretty much just tried to gaslight me into thinking this is all normal.. then I would go home, told my partner and my flatmate what went down at work, and every time they were absolutely shocked.
also the place gets really fucking dirty during summer - bc staff does not reasonably have time to serve everyone and also do some serious deep cleaning, and he doesn't bother hiring a cleaner. the guy who was mainly responsible for cleaning and maintenance was working in the kitchen all summer bc we were so understaffed.
when I complained in my resignation he replied that maybe I'm not suited for work in the hospitality industry - which is hilarious given I had been working in the industry for 5 years, and i had jobs where I not only got complimented for my work ethic and abilities, but I've also encountered managers trying to keep me on when I wanted to leave. I'm glad I faced him at a time when I was aware of my own value and capabilities.
also, if half of the dodgy shit I heard about him is true, that's already pretty bad lol. he does pull the whole "we're like a family here" shit and i have to say, I do pity his family.
