I understand and maybe if one day I have a traumatic experience I may change my mind. Let me be clear, my dog means to me more than any other living being. I don't have a family of me own and live just with her. She is off the lead and I am constantly alert and evaluating my surroundings. It would be so much less hassle if I just put her on the lead.
What you are describing to me is the everyday risk each of us, even we humans, take on to live our lives. You could be run over by a drink driver, a pot could fall on your head from a balcony and kill you instantly. You won't stop crossing the street though. Shit just happens sometimes. And it will be utterly devastating for me if I have any fault in her getting hurt or worse, but I won't reduce her quality of life and happiness because of those hypothetical fears. I manage them and weigh them to give her the most freedom possible and her be a dog. |
