The current price rises have exactly nothing to do with our utility companies. The price of natural gas peaked in December at a price 700% up on where it was a year ago, and it's still up 300%.

That is largely driven by increased demand from China and Europe, and tensions over the Russia/Ukraine situation.

Prior to the price cap increase the entire sector has been losing money hand over fist for months. If prices go back to where they were November/December they'll all be losing money even after the price cap increase.

Ultimately this is a supply issue, it has nothing to do with the middle men.
