Comment | "Where do you stay?" means where are you currently living. I worked in NW England for a while and was asked "are you staying down here" by a colleague and I was saying "aye, I've rented a flat" but they were asking if my transfer was permanent.
Also, when Scottish people say "up the road" it means "home". This can take the form of "Could you give me a lift up the road" to a house a mile away or "Is Jimmy coming up the road this weekend?" referring to a friend who's currently working in London. |
