| Comment | There were always reasonable justifications against GARL, at least in some of its forms.
As a stub line serving only the airport, it would've impacted all other services on the Paisley-Glasgow line. There was a plan tossed around a little in the 80s to do a loop, crossing the river after the airport at Yoker and returning to Glasgow on the old railway alignment past the harbour. Adding services north of the Clyde might've made the impact to Inverclyde services tolerable.
In the end it the stubby St James link was canned because if the financial crash, if I remember right.
The "personal travel pods" idea between Paisley Gilmour Street and GLA was always barmy and a massive waste of everybody's time. Glad that but the dust too.
Oddly enough, from a glance at the recently published map in STPR2, it looks as if a "heavy metro/rail" line is planned for the airport as part of the Metro network.
