the A737 is a dual carriageway until Bridge of Weir and then it is more like a trunk A road until you get to the Dalry bypass. Then you cut through Kilwinning, Stevenston etc to Ardrossan. it's quickest route but maybe not the best?

You may prefer taking the M77 to Kilmarnock then A71 to Irvine and A78 to Ardrossan, which is all motorways and duel carriageways I think.

The main roads on Arran are two-way, not many single track roads unless you go off piste.
