Comment | It's all about diet really. A lot of powerlifters do go down the road of putting on a lot of fat thanks to massive calorie surpluses without much thought to macros. I'm in this camp because I'm lazy with my diet but it's not the only way.
You can powerlift and keep a well defined but powerful physique, check out lifters such as Clarence Kennedy, he's an olympic/powerlifter and looks amazing and he actually did it with a vegan diet surprisingly. He pushes some crazy weights but still looks good. Examples like him are somewhat attainable but keep in mind a lot of the people you'll see online who have amazing physiques and lifts are also juicing. So don't set your standards to unattainable levels and accept that a lot of strength athletes have spent many, many years getting to where they are so don't get disheartened when you're not benching 100kg+, squatting and deadlifting 2.5x bodyweight within a couple of months unless you're particularly genetically gifted.
It's a very long but rewarding journey that takes a lot of mental fortitude and dedication. All of which starts with looking after your mental health along with the physical. |
