They had to close Shields Road a couple of weeks ago because the potholes on the narrowed bridge were so dangerous and completely unavoidable.

There were police there redirecting traffic for about 12 hours while they did an emergency repair which lasted about 2 days. Repairing promptly would presumably cost less, but I report it every day and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The bridge seems to be some kind of war of wills between GCC and Network Rail, but honestly, closing it for a few months would be absolutely worth it at this stage.
