Comment | It’s the plate for the vehicle that costs a fortune. Taxi numbers are restricted in Glasgow so supply and demand dictated the cost of the plate. Used to be £30-40k pre covid.
Technically the plates are non transferable so what should happen is a one out one in system for new vehicle licenses being issued. When a driver retires the plate is supposed to be handed back to the council and they would reissue to a new vehicle.
But instead people were registering the plate to a limited company, so when they retire from the trade they can sell the Taxi Business ltd company that owns the plate. |
