It's sort of interesting because as you know Lidl started in Germany. Lidls in Germany are rough. They don't even shelve the items but they leave the boxes and you need to open it like an orc. It is supposed to be a super cheap supermarket. Aldi is similar. Old Lidls and Aldis everywhere in Europe are like that. Rough and cheap.

For some reason it seems that the british people want the illusion of shopping in a Waitrose but with cheap prices. So newer (or refurbished) Lidls and Aldis have been changed to look more decent and high end. If you go anywhere in EU, Lidls are still rought. But in the UK they try to look high end.

I do love the old "rough" Lidl aesthetic. Just rows of metal cages with half opened boxes.
