A very basic way to look at this is through a scenario:
Let's say you were assigned female at birth, so everyone views you as a woman as you grow up. But deep inside you know you are a man, and you just want to live your life as your truth. You take steps to make this a reality and you have a better quality of life. Finally the "out" matches who you truly are, you are a man.
So if we turn this around, and apply it to a trans woman, we see that they are women.
Biology is not destiny or an indicator of who is "real". Science supports this.
It's often that people who have a bias against transgender people will claim that we aren't "real", when they just don't understand the difference between biology and identity and how it's very inaccurate to view the world as straightforward
binary system when rather it's a complex spectrum, which is all quite natural unlike what this user was trying to argue. |
