Solidarity. My dad died at Christmas and he rented so I didn't have long to clear his house. He didn't have quite so many books as your dad, maybe 200 or so. I kept some for myself. I picked one up last night and found an inscription in it from me, which gave me a weird feeling! I gave it to him Christmas 2013.

I found the bigger charity shops often have a collection service for big uplifts - that's how I got a lot of the furniture moved and they did take a couple of suitcases of books too, as well as a lot of glassware, kitchen stuff (all cleaned up first by me), several bags of clothing etc.

Hope you're doing OK. It's a physically/mentally draining job when you're grieving.
