Use one of the services that checks for cancellations and automatically books you in. My girlfriend did it before Christmas and it's honestly amazing how efficient the process is for about £15. You can get a test in 2, 3 weeks. Can't remember what she used, but they're probably all the same more or less. Just google whatever one you find + trustpilot to check they're on the level and away you go.
