Yes it's in a nice bit of town family will be fine, with a walkway taking you safely past the expressway into Partick.
Depending on which flats you're in I'd say absolute max 15 min slow walk to Partick train station where there's trains to Edinburgh at least every half hour during the week. Or was at least last time I lived out that way
