Just to answer a few questions.

So my current employer had me on furlough for a year then they seconded me to the NHS to work on test & protect. That contract ends next week and the employer has said that they need extra time in place to bring back everyone to the company so have forced us all to take a weeks annual leave before coming back. It's annoyed a lot of people and the fact I've not done my job for over two years is concerning.

The people that have been brought back already are doing the jobs of two or three people due to redundancies.

The new company I applied for is public sector and in their words "much quieter" so yes, I'd have a simplified life but less pay. Commuting time is about the same and both roles are hybrid working.

Pensions id need to check.
