Comment | 1. I'd use the mobile app and buy the cheapest tickets on there that seem applicable (I know they do multi buy ticket options etc with discounts vs on board). The phone will display a QR code to scan, and that way you don't really need to speak to the driver unless it's not working or some other query.
2. As mentioned, use the mobile app. The saltire cards you mention are for pensioners and folks with disabilities who are eligible, where as children now use the Young Scot card for free travel.
3. Stick your hand out for the bus at the bus stop, yes.
4. As someone who relies on buses due to not being able to drive due to disability, I usually use Google Maps to plot routes then check the timetables and stops using the app.
