I appreciate your comment, and maybe I am naive or defeatist...but I just want the suffering on both sides to stop.

Also, it seams a bit disingenuous to draw the comparison to the holocaust. Putin, as far as I can tell, is not engaging in ethnic clenching or following a rethoric of ethno-nationalism. A better comparison would perhaps have been the appeasement with regards to the Sudetenland in the lead up to WW2.

And yes, I am fully aware of how that appeasement approach worked out, and recognise it as a valid argument against my position.

All the same, it seams that the outcome of this war is going to be a Russian victory one way or another, the main difference being the cost to (primarily) the Ukranian civilian population, and belligerents on both sides.

The only positive outcome is some sort of peace, preferably sooner rather than later to limit the loss of life and destructions that can come.

I worry about what happens when this war escalates further. When Russia got bogged down in Chechnia, they ended up engaging in a brutal war of attrition, ultimately resulting in 80% of Grozny's population being killed or displaced, imagine the same happening to Ukraine, with an urban population of 30 million.
