| Comment | I work in the industry although not for an energy company. Smart meters are harmless and give you transparency over your bills, they will also make your bills more accurate and avoid you getting a giant catch up bill. The reason energy suppliers are pucshing them is not so much because it benefits them and more because the government is up their asses trying to get these rolled out.
Ultimately they’re just saving you the hassle of submitting a meter read manually. I think the reason people don’t like them is probably more to do with bill shock than the meter themselves. For instance if you decided to get one but had been neglecting to give your energy readings regularly your supplier would have been estimating your bills, and then you get a thing that gives readings regularly and accurately and oopsy turns out you had used way more energy so you accumulated a massive bill. Now you get angry and blame the smart meter when in fact the lack or readings was the issue to begin with.
That being said… fuck these people making a massive profit off something totally essential. |
