Comment | I have everyone - including psychiatrists no less - in my caseload. It varies from from the teenager self medicating their childhood trauma/abuse, to the 80something with alcohol related brain damage from cumulative exposure to alcohol (those glasses of wine with dinner).
Of course, a lot is to do with "shit life syndrome" - inequality, deprivation, poverty - but not exclusively so.
Like with any health condition, its a mix of genetics (there are familial risks identified), the condition itself, and the social/lifestyle aspects surrounding the person.
Trauma is definitely the big one when it comes to people I see - I'm usually working people up to engaging with my psychology colleagues for trauma-informed therapies. |
