Comment | There's also time-of-use tariffs starting to appear, a couple of suppliers do them for customers with smart meters (although really meant for people who can make proper use of them, such as with EV charging) - I'm on one of these tariffs and occassionally get paid to use electricity in the middle of the night in return for paying a little more for peak electricity.
While it's not *meant* for doing your washing, it's not *not meant* for that, and as others have pointed out this is a big social problem brewing as such tariffs might expand in the context of high energy prices. I don't do it, but there's only the thin line of sympathy for my neighbours that stops me. |
