I think the cheapest train tickets are released 12 weeks in advance, however they seem to have gone up a lot in recent years.

If you’re flying remember to factor in travel to and from the airport for both legs, this can add on a whack.

I think Megabus do a sleeper to London which is pretty cheap, it may also have bunks so you can actually lie down for a kip.
