I don't really get what your point is. That's what the prices were for taxis, so that's what we have to compare to. We would all like cheaper taxis sure, but I'm just comparing with the facts. I do think prices are worse now, because there aren't any better methods of transport at that time. The night buses used to run all week 15 years ago, then got cut to weekends only, and then to one bus a night instead of every hour. So taxi's are really now the only way to get about at that time. The 2 cheapest and most reliable private hire companies merged to form a far inferior service that bumps the price up when it gets busy, much like Uber. (On top of the rumour of drivers deliberately driving up fares by disconnecting in unison to drive up demand, then all simultaneously reconnecting and picking up the surged fares). So with so little alternative the hacks can effectively charge what they want. And that's before we consider the fact that there are much less drivers out there now after COVID, so demand is naturally higher. I did purposefully move closer to everything so I would never have to pay for a taxi or get a train again, so I clearly do agree it's too expensive, but if people are still paying it then the taxis are still gonna charge it aren't they? It's not too bad if you are in a group to split the fare, do people not shout out where they are going at the rank anymore to find fellow travellers?
